Join us for a virtual, online celebration of the multiculturalism of Canada’s West Coast fishing heritage with the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society’s annual Pull of the Net!
This year, performances and activities will be available on this web page from September 21-27. Participants from local community groups include Chinese Lion Dancing by Northern Shaolin Traditional Martial Arts; Coastal Indigenous song and dance by Coastal Wolf Pack; Japanese calligraphy demonstration by Japanese Calligraphy artist – Shien; activities by Ocean Wise; Chinese calligraphy demonstration by Celia Leung; a Japanese Taiko drumming and Chinese musician collaboration by Uzume Taiko and Silk Road Music; and more to be announced soon!
Bookmark this page to access all of these wonderful community presentations; we will also be sharing clips from the Oral History Project, so you can learn about work and life at canneries from first hand accounts.
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society would like to thank Port of Vancouver for sponsoring this event.
