May 1st 2026 - May 31st 2026

In collaboration with the Nikkei Centre and Chinese Canadian Museum, this limited-time exhibit shares stories of Chinese and Japanese Canadians in Steveston. Special workshops and activities will be available on select weekend dates.

About the Event

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery is proud to be hosting a special pop-up exhibit throughout the month of May in celebration of Asian Heritage Month. Hand Over Hand focuses on the stories of Chinese and Japanese Canadians in Steveston.

These historic communities have deep ties to the fishing and canning industry but are often overlooked. Highlighting authentic voices, this temporary exhibit shows that Asian Canadian history is more than just the tragedies— the Asian Canadians of Steveston have so much joy to share.
