This year’s sockeye runs on the Fraser and Skeena rivers are extremely low. Sockeye salmon runs cycle every 4 years, so the disastrous Fraser sockeye run in 2009 indicated this year’s run would be low. But this summer’s high water temperatures may have further reduced sockeye numbers. Meanwhile, the Skeena sockeye run is the lowest in more than 50 years.
