While details for their program have not yet been made public, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will start testing fish off the West coast for radiation. Even after the nuclear fallout in Fukusima earlier this year, the CFIA expects the radiation levels to be “below Health Canada’s actionable levels for radiation.”
“Salmon are a particular concern to Alexandra Morton [of the Raincoast Research Society] and others because their wide-ranging migration patterns can take them right across the Pacific Ocean to the coast of Japan. ”
The CFIA has tested 34 domestic products including cows’ milk, and they found all products safe for consumption.
