Today, it has mergered with Canadian Fishing Co. CFC is mainly the operator. Ocean Fisheries was once a thriving co. in Prince Rupert area. Is that plant still there? I was once a fisherman in Cassiar along the Skeena River. Where are all the fishermen today? Mainly in Richmond and Comissioner St ?

That looks like the yacht that belonged to Phil Harris. He used to take fishing vacations up the coast line with his friend Bing Crosby. They were in Namu in the summer of 1959. I saw Bing Crosby and got an autograph from him on my way to the store. Saddly, I don’t remember the name of the yacht, but it was a beauty!

(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
“Harris was also a close friend and associate of Bing Crosby and appeared in an episode of ABC’s short-lived The Bing Crosby Show sitcom.”

Comment on Follow the Herring? by a. penner http://gulfofgeorgiacannery.org/news/follow-the-herring#comment-205 Thu, 23 Jan 2014 17:40:22 +0000 http://gulfofgeorgiacannery.com/?p=11916#comment-205 Hello Emma,

Glad you liked the post! I’m always on the lookout for fish-related news, especially salmon and herring (as they pertain to our museum), so I get Google alerts for both. On Tuesday, one of these took me to the Daily Express’s “Top 10 Facts About Herring” article, in which your project was mentioned. What an original idea – best of luck with the tour!

Kind regards,

Annika
