Cannery A to Z: XYZ is for Xplorers Youth Zone!

The Parks Canada Xplorer activity booklets (suitable for kids ages 6-11) is a great way for kids to discover more about our national parks and historic sites, and have fun while doing it.

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site Xplorers booklet can be requested free at the Front Desk, with admission to the site. While the activities are designed for the age group 6 to 11 years old, we’ve found that younger (and older) siblings have enjoyed teaming together to help with the puzzles, activities, and scavenger hunts in the booklet.

After completing a few tasks in the booklet, the Xplorers can find one of our heritage interpreters to pick up a their own souvenir Xplorer dog tag. Each site has its own tags, making them collectible memorabilia of each visit. See below for a photo of one of our most impressive Xplorer visitors, who, with his two brothers and his parents, had traveled across Canada for a year, amassing this amazing collection of Xplorer dog tags!

So the next time you visit the Cannery or other Parks Canada site – ask if they have an Xplorer booklet to discover more during your stay! And best of all, admission for Youth 17 years old and under is free at all Parks Canada sites.

…thanks for following our museum alphabet journey “Cannery A to Z”. There is so much more to explore and learn about Canada’s west coast fishing heritage; we hope that this alphabetical journey has provided a glimpse into what there is to discover at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site.
